I was born in england and lived there for 6 years, I then moved to australia and got an Australian passport and let my British one expire. Would I need to apply for an entry visa to go back and live in england?

Visit the British consulate in Australia. A passport will cost about $300 well that is the cost in the USA in don't know the exchange rate sorry. It's a very easy process and they are very helpful.

Your passport expired, your citizenship didn't - if you a British citizen by birth & you had a British passport all you need do is renew your passport Australia & the UK both allow dual citizenship so the Australians wouldn't have asked you to renounce your British citizenship to take up Australian citzienship http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/

If you are an Australian citizen you can live and work in Britain without a visa anyway if you are under 30. But since you are British born, I would just contact a British embassy in Australia and ask to apply for another British passport. You are allowed dual citizenship, so it shouldn't be a problem. Here is the UK embassy in Australia website for more info-- http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/ Good luck!

If you had a British passport before, you must be a British citizen so all you need to do is renew your UK passport because the fact that your passport expired hasn't changed the fact of your British citizenship. Both the UK and Australia recognise dual citizenship but you will be expected to enter and leave the UK on your British passport and you certainly won't be able to live and work there if you don't. In fact, I very much doubt if you would even be able to get a visa - very few countries will ever issue a visa to their own citizens. UK passports are easy to get in Australia: http://ukinaustralia.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/
