Can someone live in Australia without a Visa

Can someone live in Australia without a Visa?
I want to move to Australia and I know a lot about the visas they offer. They don't seem to offer a visa for someone who wants to live there, work at a normal job (lets say a restaurant), and then apply for citizenship later and also study later (around 6 months after moving there). To apply for citizenship you need to be living there for 5 years but how can you live there legally for 5 years if most of the visas expire within 12 months?

You will have to apply for a student visa or meet the job requirements for a work visa. There is no way you can just live there and work at low skill jobs..there is no "casual" work visa. Australia has stict immigration standards...as other countries do too. Theare very selective.

If you want to move to Australia then Australia needs to get something out of it. We don't need people to work a 'normal' job in a restaurant, Australians need jobs too. If you want to move here then you need to be a skilled worker. We're not going to give away our jobs. You either need to get a skill behind you first or you can come over on a study visa and study but not stay. You could come on a working holiday also. You don't need to be a citizen to live in Australia only a resident. To become a resident you need to be a skilled worker. You can become a citizen after 2 yrs residency but you need to complete a test. Look more into the skilled worker sponsorship http://www.immi.gov.au

Yes, they are called born and bred locals

No. You can holiday but to live here you require a visa.Skilled or Student visas are available and you must understand that we probably could not come to your country and take a job from you so therefore the reverse applies. If you intend to study apply for a Student Visa . If you are Skilled apply for a Working Visa and then you can go from there.

There are a number of visas on which you can live in Australia permanently: 1. Skilled Visa 2. Marriage Visa 3. Family/Sponsor Visa 4. Student Visa 5. Fiance Visa 6. Refugee Visa Basically, most of these visas require you to invest a lot of your time and money.Getting into Australia is not easy.Even before they let you in you have to prove that you will be able to support your self financially and that you have not commited any crime and also you need to be healthy. The only legal way of staying here is by applying for the visas I have mentioned. If you want to become a citizen you need to wait 5 years and complete a test.

yes everyones right, you can't just come to australia without anything to offer. my husband is american and im aussie and he was NOT allowed in easily. after 6 months and $15,000 he now has a permenant residencey which after 3 years he can change to citizenship (if he wants). there are heaps of rules but going from what you said you have nothing to offer australian, even doctors are getting turned away at the moment unless they are sponsored by a big business. you must have skills, and skills australia wants. also a fair bit of money. it's not easy at all.

I go with what Mel said. If people just "come here and work" and then later apply for citizenship then the whole coutnry will be over run with people coming here for a quick buck and Australiand citizens will miss out. We need to look after our own, as with ANY country would do the same. Cheers

I came on a business visa as a temporary resident, brought lots of money, completed the criteria to become a permanent resident then eventually became a Citizen - my husbands father was brought up in Sydney and had fought in the Australian Army but we still had to do all of this. Its what is keeping Australia GREAT - the strict immigration laws. If you have the right skills or intend to buy a business and employ locals for a minimum time then you will be able to move over - if you want a job in Macdonalds then I'm afraid it's a no win for you!!

He will have to live in Canada and fulfill residency requirement before he can apply for citizenship. Before citizenship, he needs to be a legal resident. You will need a spousal visa. Donna

The last I heard you had to be skilled and have a job to go to ,so you need to study and get some qualifications . Look into what skills they are looking for and get yourself qualified in that, then search for a job there ,then apply .
2 :
I don't see any options for you at the minute to move 'permanently' to Australia. Refer to Australian immigration websites for it.
3 :
Apply for immigration australia so you can get moe information
4 :
If only the US had as strict of immigration policy as Australia.
5 :
You will need a job. Home, a place to live. And be over 21 years old. Australia has a points system. So when you are old enough apply.
6 :
Australian immigration is restricted to workers who have qualifications and experience in occupations in which Australia needs workers so stay at school and go on to university or get an apprenticeship in a good trade so that you have a degree or formal trade qualifications. Either way, you'll also need to work for several years to get solid experience in your occupation. Our lists of occupations change over time as demand for workers fluctuate and immigration requirements also change, but at this stage, the best you can do is look at the current list of occupations and the current requirements. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule3.pdf The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/points-fact.pdf The new points test that will apply from 1 July 2011 (you need 65 points) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/booklets/books6.htm General Skilled Migration booklet http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/ All work visas

Wow, that's a great place to live because Australia has a strong economy, lots of opportunities, fabulous lifestyles, smiling people, perfect beaches and nice weather to name but a few great qualities! Here is an informative website that provides some general information about how to get a visa, eligibility for and types of visas, costs involved what to do on arrival, etc. I think it will help you immensely.
