I live in Australia, and want to move to the UK to find work in the film industry. Any good advice re: visas?
I have researched online but can't seem to find a visa that allows Australians to just work and live for as long as we need. There's a Working Holidaymaker visa, but there's a limit on the amount of work you can do. Any tips as to the best way of going about this would be greatly appreciated!

The UK recently introduced a points system similar to the Australian system. To obtain a work permit you need skills that are in demand. The film industry has possibilities unless your an out of work film extra. I assume you want to stay for more than 90 days so you will need a visa as well. I suggest you contact the nearest UK Embassy. Ian M

Why is it so difficult for a British Citizen to enter and live in Australia

Why is it so difficult for a British Citizen to enter and live in Australia?
I have a brother in the UK that is a citizen and a plumber by trade and cannot just fly over and look for a job in Australia. Seeing that we are part of the Common Wealth it should be a matter of moving countries.

Sorry, but Australians also cannot just move to the UK. The British population is much much larger than Australia's, we simply can't let them all turn up here, the population is pretty much at the maximum our water resources can support. 53 countries are members of the Commonwealth, surely you would not just want everybody from India for example to automatically be allowed to move to the UK/Australia I believe as a plumber your brother may be eligible for skilled immigration, but I'm not sure.

Well the freedom of movement went out the window once the UK decided to join the European Economic Community and changed the immigration laws, which in turn forced all the other Commonwealth countries change their laws. Before 1971, you could turn up at just about any Commonwealth nation and reside there. How old is your brother? If he is under 31, he qualifies for a working holiday visa which entitles him to work within Australia for 6 months out of the 12 months the visa is valid for and may extend this visa to 12 out of 24 months. After he finds a job in Australia, he can just get his employer to sponsor him for a work permit and he can permanently live in Australia.

Well if its hard for Brits to move and work here you guys are doing are pretty good of job of getting in. You're bloody everywhere!!!!!

What is it like to live in Australia

What is it like to live in Australia?
I'm considering moving and working in Australia. However, I would like to know what it is like to live out there. I'm from the United States and would like to know if it is similar or totally different. Obviously language wouldn't be a problem but I'm pretty sure that there are differences in lifestyle. So can anyone tell me what life in Australia is like? And how its similar or different to living in the United States?

You might find that Aussies (pronounced Ozzies, not Ossies) are a bit more laid back than you are used to. We are not really impressed by how much is in your bank account or who your father is, celebrities are just people like us. Don't be offended if someone calls you a septic tank, it's just rhyming slang for Yank. Expect to be given a nickname or have your name shortened within 2 days of meeting someone. It's a sign that you've been accepted. We do have large cities as well as tiny outback towns, kangaroos don't jump down the main street of Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane ans we don't all sound like The Crocodile Hunter. It's a great lifestyle, a great climate and we are wonderful people, our only fault is our modesty.

Australia is beautiful - and is also a country of extremes. I have no idea where you are from in the USA so difficult to compare. As Australia is a continent and not a country you must accept different states can have different laws and scenery. Research well and check with immigration to see if you qualify!

i moved from Russia (yes, russia) to Australia 14 years ago and i absolutely love it! Its by far one of the most amazing countries in the world. The people are kind and very generous and the beaches are amazing! Everything is very laid back and no one really cares about what you wear or how you act. You could even walk out into the street in your pyjamas and no one would care! the only problem is that it can get very hot and the chances of getting skin cancer are pretty high. but thats about it. everything else is great!

Well I used to live in the Philippines 4 years ago and lifestyle there was completely different to what it is for me here now. I would say Australia is a pretty good country to live in. why? because... 1. I live here! lol (yeah that's right I have to be the first main reason) 2. It is a safe country compare to the U.S, Asia etc... 3. Government will always support you. 4. Lots of beautiful beaches (just be aware of sea creatures lol) 5. Lots of medical care centers to go to. 6. I live here! and I'm sure there's more.. now did i mention i live here?

All you need to know about us that we're racist scumbs according to a large American Population. We don't have people like Barack Obama (aka Barry Soetro) in our country and you will not drive a Kangaroo to work. We are very tolerant when it comes to electing Socialist Governments though and No, we don't have a Bill of Rights. In fact, we are a nanny state and our secret Sex Affair with China is not even Secret anymore. What we do have is Hot chicks, good weather, americanised junk food and aussie vegiMATE. We always welcome illegal immigrants and we sure pay for their well being. If you don't get an Aussie Visa then you could just as well come with a boat to our country and our Navy will intercept you just a 100 km from Aussie Mainland. No, we do not have Sarah Palin, Harry Reid or Nancy Pel0psi like politicians.
