First visit your friend for a vacation. Scope out the job prospects there and what you would need to do to gain legal residency. Although it sounds like a great way to start over after a divorce, moving overseas is a dramatic change that you don't want to rush into. If you go there to visit and really want to move there, ask your lawyer what details can be handled from overseas. With the Internet and Fed-Ex/DHL, I imagine most details could be handled remotely with the exception of any required court appearances.

My wife is Australian. I'm going through it right now(Live in FL). Don't be discouraged, but it is a long process. Look on the websites posted by the other answerers. If you have any questions, ring the australian consulate. They are very helpful.
