Do you think Sydney or Horbart is the best place to live in Australia

Do you think Sydney or Horbart is the best place to live in Australia?
We have been to both places and are planning to move to Australia 6 months out of the year. Both are great cities and both are somewhat different and alike. We like all the hubbub in Sydney and the quietness in Hobart. Both cities are quite different than American cities.

They are not the best places to live in Australia. Hobart is too cold in the winter. It snows there. Sydney is Australia's largest city with all the problems of large cities. Lack of public transportation and overcrowding. Too many cars, the traffic is a nightmare. I prefer Brisbane in Queensland. It does not snow in Queensland. You can swim all year long in the Ocean.

If you're from Pittsburgh, you'll probably find the winter's in Hobart quite balmy. And the humidity of Sydney in summer will make you think you've never left home. Of the two, it really comes down to personal preferences. For me, I'd choose Hobart. It's a quick flight to Melbourne (50-odd minutes) if there's a show (live theatre) you really want to see, but it's far enough away from the "big smoke" to be able to live (instead of merely exist). Sydney's too fast-paced and money-oriented for me. It reminds me of New York. Just too much of a rat-race for my tastes. Hobart's full of history รข€” big enough to have all the modern conveniences, and yet small enough that you don't have to drive for hours to get out into the countryside. So which city is best for you comes down to what YOU want out of life. Brash, bright lights, or quiet comfort and room to live.

Both great Cities. it depends what you would like to do while there. Hobart will be much cheaper but also quite sleepy compared to Sydney. Hobart is a great base to explore the other areas in Tasmania as the island is small but very different to the rest of the Country. One can have some amazing outdoor adventures in Tasmania. Sydney has some great beaches and better weather. i live on the Gold Coast Australia and just love it here.

It depends which 6 months you are coming. Don't live in Hobart in our winter if you can help it. If it's our summer you are coming then as you say it depends on what sort of lifestyle you are looking for. I love Tasmania for a holiday but I don't think I'd want to live there, I prefer the hustle bustle of Sydney. Hobart will be significantly cheaper and has fabulous weather in summer.
5 :
Having chosen to move from Sydney to Hobart 6 years ago I can say Hobart has a better lifestyle than Sydney or any of the other capital cities. Statements that Hobart is cold in winter are not correct I have been far colder in Sydney, in Hobart houses are built to maintain an even temperature and people dress appropriately. Hobart doesn't have the noise, pollution and crime of the other capitals. The hubub of of big cities can be gotten nearly anywhere, Hobart offers and active sporting and cultural scene based on participation.

Sydney is way better. More places, people and just more everything. However, it is the most expensive city in the world to park in.
7 :
sydney sucks and everyone hates everyone there, melbourne is the best but i say go to hobart!
8 :
Sydney !!!!!!!! dude its far far better than Herbart... Hobart is too cold in winter.. n Sydney has the best climate across the World...!!!!! _Criss
9 :
I'd say Sydney because it's usually warm here and pleasant. Hobart has cold winters and I cannot stand them. Though Hobart is drier than Sydney and it gets more sunny days, weird.
10 :
PenguineK, really it's really a matter of personal preference. I'm Canadian, you know that place just north of you. I have been to both, my personal preference going on your question would be Sydney.

What time should you post on an American forum if you live in Australia

What time should you post on an American forum if you live in Australia?
I regularly post on Gamefaqs but due to the fact that it is predominately related to the coverage of games etc released in America, I cannot find a time where my posts get a reasonable amount of responses because I assume that I post when most of the US is asleep. So what time in Australia should I post to maximise the amount of replies?

2 :
If it is 1200 Noon in Sydney - it is 1900 (7PM) In Los Angles. Take a look at this web site and it will tell you the times in the different time zones in the U.S. http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/cgi-gin/timer.pl

This store is open 24 hours a day. US has an extended timezone. Post early in the morning to have more chances. You can also post in Australia, New Zeland, Japan in the evening, that will increase your chances.

That depends on the phone carrier and the their international rates. Good luck
2 :
Contact your carrier. Unlimited texting only applies domestically.
3 :
There's no way anybody here would know, especially since you didn't tell us what cell phone provider you have. Contact your cell phone service provider (Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, etc) and ask them.

You should move to either Sydney or Melbourne. Those are the only decent cities in Australia. Whatever you do, don't move to Canberra. It is extremely boring and filled with dull politicians. Weather is hot in summer and cold in winter. Shocking, I know. Doesn't snow though, that's different to America. How much is there to do there? Not entirely sure what you mean, but it depends on where you live. Don't think there's many jobs anywhere at all at the moment, but you can always try. The cost of living will change wherever you decide to live. Live in a shit place, it won't cost much, live in a nice place, pay more. Australia is supposed to be fairly similar to America, so you'll be fine.

Ohh great! Australia is wonderful. I reccommend Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast if you like big cities with a lot to do. Sydney is the most populated city in Australia (even though Melbourne is catching up), the weather is quite hot in summer (at the hottest it can be in the 40's celsius) and nice and cool in winter, although snow is rare it is still nice and cool. I guarantee there is always something interesting to do in Sydney. Have you ever heard of the TV show Bondi Rescue? Or Bondi Beach? Bondi Beach is a massive tourist attraction which is not too far away. In summer there's about 40,000 people there. So if you've got your eye on Sydney, Bondi Beach is a necessity. Most of the information you need can be found here: http://www.visitnsw.com/Sydney_p934.aspx Melbourne is growing very quickly, it is fairly expensive to live (especially if you're living in Melbourne CBD or Docklands, etc. It is cheaper to live outside of the city area. The night life in Melbourne is great, and the shopping there is the best I've ever experienced. Trust me, the shopping is amazing. Melbourne is very cold in winter, and rainy. But in summer it is very warm and humid. http://www.visitmelbourne.com/ Brisbane is a lot like Melbourne, but it is great warm weather all year round. http://www.visitbrisbane.com.au/ And the Gold Coast, is tourists tourists tourists! There are some of the best theme parks up there. The Gold Coast is possibly my favourite place in Australia. Very relaxed, sunny, the best beaches, very clean and fresh.

Not Canberra.

NOT Melbourne...only SOME parts of Melbourne are good, like St. Kilda and Albert Park, and CBD. The good parts of Melbourne are just the CBD and only SOME decent neighborhoods. All the other parts are S H I T H O L E. NOT Sydney either b/c of extreme cost of living and crime. If I were you, I would only consider either Brisbane or Gold Coast. But on the other hand, why move to Australia? Housing costs have skyrocketed over the last few years, where the avg is around $400k to 500k or more, which is about 2 to 3 times that of US! And also note that property values in Aus is becoming even more expensive than Europe!(e.g. UK) A one bed room apartment in a Melbourne suburb costs about $360~380k!! This was where I had my rent, which was about $295 per week, but now it's around $320/wk..SO CRAZY! Influx of excess immigrants is pushing all the costs up unfortunately, and part of the reason is that Aus isn't affected by the global crisis as much. And believe it or not, as a person who had lived in the US for more than 5 years, life in Australia really sucks compared to the States. Crappy shopping, people are more disorganized in general, not a lot of opportunities, lack of a lot of amenities that you take granted for in the US, etc..

Move to Sydney rather than Melbourne in my opinion. I lived in Melbourne for 25 years and it gets boring and the weather is overcast 9 months of the year. Sydney is more expensive rent wise because more people want to live here (It varies in different areas, close to beach or harbour it will be more expensive say $400p/w for 1 bed look at www.realestate.com.au for an idea. It's a lot more lively in Sydney and the weather is subtropical and theres heaps to do: check out: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/03/06/24hours.sydney/index.html 1 litre of petrol is around AU$1.10 to AU$1.30. You will have to do conversions of $A/$US and Litre/Gallon to get an idea. Food is probably around the same price as the US, maybe a bit more expensive (If you are eating out it is not expected of you to tip in Australia and you don't get as bigger serve as you do in the USA in my
experience).
